John married former public relations executive Karen Waldbillig back in the year 1997.
As per a report in the Cincinnati Enquirer, John met Karen in 1989. He was a congressman at that time and Karen was working on a public relations project for Ohio State University.
John called his future wife to thank her for her dedication to the very project, the Columbus Dispatch. Well, none of other members appreciated her work but the only single person "her future husband".
Kasich said about his wife in 2010 Dispatch article,
"She’s my anchor, my light. She’s awesome. I use that word a lot when I describe her."
He was previously married to Mary Lee Griffith in 1975 which ended in a divorce. The couple had no children from their relationship. Similarly, he was also in the relationship with Mary Lee Griffith for five years before he met his current wife.
John Kasich and Karen Waldbillig: Parents of Twin Daughters
Twin daughters of the couple, Emma and Reese are now 17. They joined their parents on the campaign trail in New Hampshire in 2016.
They talk about their father and life on the campaign trail in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash. They explained their best experience with a father. They were actually very proud of him.
Emma told CNN that he is a "very Godly person," and the "best candidate."
John Kasich: His Amazing Career
John competes against Democratic incumbent Robert O'Shaughnessy in 1978 for State Senate. Just at the age of 26, he won with 56% of total votes with a beginning of his four-year term representing the 15th district.
In 1982, Kasich ran for Congress in Ohio's 12th congressional district and luckily won the Republican primary with 83% of the vote.
He was supported by Republicans and Democrats and was considered a fiscal conservative. He was a member of the House Armed Services Committee for 18 years.
John became the ranking Republican member of the House Budget Committee in the year 1993. He was one of the Republican leaders to support a last-minute deal with resident Bill Clinton passing the Federal Assault Weapons Ban.
He became chairman of the House Budget Committee following the 1994 election when Republicans gained the majority in the United States Congress.
On May 1, 2009, Kasich filed papers to run for governor of Ohio against incumbent Democratic governor Ted Strickland. He won the nomination for governor on 4 May 2010.
He won the re-election defeating Democrat Ed FitzGerald with 86 of 88 counties. His second term is set to end on 14 January 2019.
