What is Reproductive Hazards? What are its effects on women's health?

A reproductive hazards affect the both male and female reproductive system and these hazards may be a chemical, physical or biological agent.

A reproductive hazards are substances or agents that have harmful effects on the male or female reproductive system or in the development of the fetus and these hazards may be a chemical, physical or biological agent.

Well, it affects both men and women but often it considers as the woman's problem as they have the ability to bear a child.

#Effect 5. Disruption of the menstrual cycle and hormone production

High levels of physical or emotional stress or exposure to chemicals may disrupt the balance between the brain, pituitary gland, and ovaries.

This disruption can result in an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone which lead to menstrual disorders or loss of sex drive, or they can damage the ovaries directly.

#Effect 4. Infertility and subfertility

Many women are unable to conceive a child after years of a process also which includes many factors that affect their fertility. These factors can affect one or both the partners.

  • Damage to the woman’s eggs
  • Damage to the man’s sperm
  • A change in the hormones needed to regulate the normal menstrual cycle and uterine growth

#Effect 3. Miscarriage and Stillbirths

About 1 in every 6 pregnancies ends in a miscarriage and often it occurs at the very early stage of pregnancy even before they have an idea of their pregnancy.

Miscarriages and stillbirths occur for many reasons;

  • Due to the damage of egg or sperm
  • Hormonal problem 
  • The fetus may not have developed normally.
  • Physical problems may exist with the uterus or
    cervix.

A birth defect is a physical abnormality present at the birth of infant though it may not be detected until later.

About 2% to 3% of babies are born with a major birth defect because many women are unaware of their pregnancy.

The first 3 months of the pregnancy is a very sensitive time of development because the internal organs and limbs are formed during this period.

Well, in most of the cases the cause of the birth defect is unknown.

#Effect 1. Other health problems

Some of the women are not concerned about their menstrual cycles or they don't interested in getting pregnant but their general health can be harmed by reproductive hazards that alter the production of sex hormones.

These sex hormones have effects throughout their body which may cause;

  • Some cancers, such as endometrial or breast cancer
  • Osteoporosis
  • Heart disease
  • Tissue loss or weakening
  • Effects on the brain and spinal cord, including symptoms of menopause
