The reassuring reporter started her career from an early age. She first began her career in 1963 as a secretary at Newsweek. She was one of the first female reporters to earn an internship from the secretary pool and later became the White House correspondent for the Newsweek.

Eleanor started her broadcast career on “The Diane Rehm Show” on the WAMU-FM. They divorced in 1986 and Clift married Tom Brazaitis in 1989. Her second husband Tom was a Washington columnist for “The Plain Dealer” in Ohio.

Tom died due to kidney cancer in 2005 and they were together till 2005.
