John Clayton Mayer is a famous American singer-songwriter, guitarist and a producer popularly known as John Mayer. He began his career after leaving college. He is one of the finest singers and has won seven Grammy Awards out of 19 nominations. Almost all of his albums entered to the Billboard and earned awards as well. As of now, he is single, but he has a long list of girlfriends that he dated in the past.
Early Life and Education
John Mayer was born as John Clayton Mayer on 16th October 1977 in Bridgeport, Connecticut with the birth sign Libra. Mayer is an American and belongs to White ethnicity. He was raised by his parents Richard Mayer (a high school principal) and Margaret Mayer (a middle school English teacher) along with his two brothers Cael and Ben.
He attended the Center for Global Studies at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk and Fairfield Warde High School. During his school days, he was close to James Blake, a tennis player and used to play Nintendo together. After that Mayer attended Berklee College of Music but left the college after two semesters along with his friend, Clay Cook.
Mayer got fascinated with the musical instrument after watching the guitar performance by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future. Also listening to a cassette tape of blues artist, Stevie Ray Vaughn, given by one of his neighbor, his interest in that genre increased.
After leaving college, Mayer along with his friend moved to Atlanta to pursue a career in music. The two founded a two-man band named, LoFi Masters and began to perform in various clubs, coffee houses, and many other places.
Working for several years together, finally, they parted to pursue a solo career in interested genres as he changed his interest to pop music. After that he recorded his first independent EP Inside Wants Out with the help of engineer and a local producer, Glenn Matullo. Eight songs were included in the EP in which Mayer played the guitar and gave vocals. In the opening track Back To You, the co-producer David Labruyere played the bass guitar.
As of 2000, he signed a contract with Aware Records after which he began to appear in Aware Festivals, concerts and competitions as well. After that in 2001, he released his first full-length album called, Room for Squares which includes the songs like No Such Thing, Your Body Is a Wonderful and Why Georgia.
Later on, the album became one of the hit albums of the year and even gained a multiplatinum commercial success. He also won a Grammy Award for the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 2003.
After that Mayer released his second album, Heavier Things which was also praised well and reached the top of the Billboard 200. Not only this, one of the songs of the album, Daughter again led him to win another Grammy Award.
In 2005, he shifted his direction and again began to focus on the genre in which he was interested in first that is the blues. After that, he co-founded the rock and blues band named, John Mayer Trio in collaboration with Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan. Sometime after the formation of the team, they released their first live album called, Try! also nominated for the Grammy Award.
Furthermore, in 2006 he released his third solo album called, Continuum for which he received two Grammy Awards, one for the album and another for the song, Waiting on the World to Change.
In 2009, he collaborated with Guy Sebastian, an Australian artist in his three songs in the album, Like It Like That. He even played guitar on Crosby Loggin's debut LP Time to Move and performed a guitar version of Michael Jackson’s song, Human Nature in Jackson's televised memorial service.
During the same year, he gave the fans his fourth album called, Battle Studies which despite mixed critics view earned much of the fame and its arena tour made $45 million. After that due to some health issues, he took a gap to record his fifth album, Born and Raised which eventually released in 2012. The album also entered the Billboard 200 charts and sold 219000 copies in the very first week.
By 2013, Mayer began to work for his sixth album, Paradise Valley produced by Don Was in which he collaborated with Frank Ocean on the song, Wildfire Pt. 2. He then made himself busy in the tours and concerts where he performed along with many celebrities and musical groups like Maroon 5, Counting Crows, Ben Folds, Ed Sheeran, Beyonce, Katy Perry, and so many others.
Moreover, on 20th January 2016, he released his song, Love on the Weekend as a lead singer from EP, The Search for Everything: Wave One that released in 2017.
Apart from all these, he even wrote a column called, Music Lessons with John Mayer after the issue of Esquire. After that he also hosted half-hour comedy special on VH1 Named, John Mayer Has a TV Show.

In 2002, he dated Jenifer Love Hewitt, an American actress for whom he even wrote a song, Your Body is a Wonderful. But later on parted after some months due to some issues and also revealed that they didn't have sex. After that in 2006, he apologized to Hewitt after cracking the joke about her by mocking their fling in a comedy routine.
He then dated an American singer and actress, Jessica Simpson from 2006 nine months after the divorce with her ex-husband, Nick Lachey. They broke up in 2007 and even revealed in an interview about the physical relationship with Simpson to whom he called, sexual napalm.
After that, he was linked romantically with an actress, Jennifer Aniston from 2008-2009. They had an on-off relationship for about a year and even walked the red carpet together. Later on, his twitter obsession became the reason behind their break up.
Besides his relationship, he suffered from cardiac dysrhythmia when he was 17 after which he was hospitalized for several days. After the incident, he suffered from many panic attacks and entered in a mental institution, later on, he managed it with the anti-anxiety medication.
Being such a popular singer, he was caught up in many disputes. Among them, the 2010 Playboy interview was one of them when he responded to a question about his interest towards black women.

As per the records, he used to spend almost 25% of his income in the expensive watches. He even sued Robert Maron, a watch dealer for worth $656000 when Mayer found that the seven watches which he bought for $5 million contained counterfeit parts.
