Michael Symon is a James Beard Foundation Award-winning American chef, restaurateur, television personality and an author; he is a very recognized and famous name in the cookery world. He is a regular face on American cookery shows and has contributed to several shows. He owns several famous restaurants around Cleveland area. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1990.

The James Beard Foundation Award–winning American chef, Michael Symon graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York in 1990

Following his graduation, Michael Symon moved to Piccolo Mondo founded a small yet devoted restaurant in 1993. In February 1997, Michael and his wife, Liz Shanahan opened another restaurant and named it as 'Lola' in Cleveland's trendy 'Tremont' neighborhood.
On 15th April 2006, Michael Symon opened a third restaurant named 'Parea', which means "a group of friends" in Greek,  in New York City. In autumn 2008, he opened a restaurant named 'Roast'  at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, Michigan, and his restaurant won the 2009 Restaurant of the Year title by 'the Detroit Free Press'.

On 25th June 2012, Michael Symon opened another Bar in 'Pittsburgh International Airport-Airmall' partnership with United Concessions Group and The Paradies Shops. Also on 21st November  2015, he opened a restaurant named 'Symon's Burger Joint' in Austin, this was his first venture outside of the Midwest. Moreover, on 11th April 2016, Symon opened a restaurant named 'Mabel's BBQ' on East 4th Street adjacent to Lola.

Television Career

On 3rd November 2009,  he promoted the Food Network's video game entitled 'Cook Or Be Cooked for Nintendo Wii'. As well as on 27th  August 2007, he worked in the "Cleveland, OH" episode of the television series entitled 'Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations'. On 14th February  2011, Symon appeared in a skit on the late-night talk show entitled 'Conan', where a young couple won a "romantic" Valentine's Day dinner date on the set. In September 2011, he began co-hosting the show entitled 'The Chew' which was aired on ABC networks, a daily talk show centered on food-related and lifestyle topics.

Multi-talented Michael Symon also featured in fellow Clevelander Michael Ruhlman's 2001 book entitled 'The Soul of a Chef: The Journey Toward Perfection'. On 24th September 2013 his popular book entitled 'The Chew: What's for Dinner ' was published moreover, this was the second book based on the 'hot ABC television show'.

In 2008, Michael Symon began working as a "spoken chef," representing cookware companies such as Vitamix and Calphalon also appearing at housewares shows and other demonstration events. In 2012 to 2013, Symon appeared with Eva Longoria, an actress  for a promotion of Pepsico's Lay's potato chip called "Do Us A Flavor."


As of now, Michael Symon won many awards in his career. In 1995, The Plain Dealer Sunday Magazine named him as a Cleveland's Hottest Chef. He is an Iron Chef winner in 2007.In 2007 Cleveland Magazine named him as a Best Local Chef. Similarly, in 2009,  James Beard Foundation Award him as a "Best Chef Great Lakes".

He is also the three-time winner of Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival Best Burger Award years including 2010, 2011 and  2012.In 2015 he won  Daytime Emmy Award in a category of  Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host he shared this award with his co-hosts on 'The Chew'.
