As breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women across the globe, people should be concerned about the facts associated with it.

Cancer is a major burden worldwide. Millions of people are diagnosed with cancer in different sites of the body at some stage in their life.

We have some improvements regarding breast cancer since the past few decades. More women are surviving the cause however, many still die due to the cause.

  • Diagnosis of about 63,410 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) the primitive form of breast cancer.
  • More than 40,000 will die of the cause.

As it is obvious that breast cancer is the leading cause of death in the United States each year, large efforts have been applied in improving the condition.

It's very clear that the mortality rate due to breast cancer has dropped 39% from 1989 to 2015 which is an impressive progress.

Death rates in women less than 50 years of age have been steady since the year 2007 but it's in decreasing trend in older women, in part due to better screening and early diagnosis, increased awareness, and improving treatment options.

Both male and female should be equally concerned about breast cancer as people of all ages and sex can be affected.

In addition, the overall incidence rate remained 2% lower in non-Hispanic black women than non-Hispanic white women.

The death rate in black women was 42 percent higher between the years 2011 and 2015, however, it was an improvement to some extent as it was 44% higher in past.

  • More than 3.5 million women survived breast cancer in the United States; the stage of diagnosis, health factors, access to the facilities and services play a major role in it.
  • Although breast cancer in men is rare, about 2,470 men will be diagnosed with the cause this year and approximately 460 will die each year.

Medications, chemotherapy, surgery, and medications have some temporary and long-term consequences.

Patient encounters some effects on the blood, hair loss, vomiting, skin and nail changes, mouth and dental issues, hand-foot syndrome, and peripheral neuropathy out of chemotherapy.

Some treatment of breast cancer can affect the health of your bones developing some chances of osteoporosis in the future.

Menopausal symptoms during and after treatment procedures are prevalent in some cases. Hormonal imbalance and basically the loss of the female hormone estrogen are the main cause of menopausal symptoms. 

In addition, radiotherapy equally affects healthy as well as cancer cells. Although most effects are temporary, some may have noticeable long-term effects.
