For now, the soon-to-be parents are definitely busy planning for their future son or a daughter.

Mookie Betts' Mother Played A Key Role To Start His Baseball Career

Betts has now become one of the world's best baseball players. Many experts believe that he will be voted as the 2018 season's American League MVP after the World Series matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He has become an avid baseball player at present but two decades earlier he was barely selected in any Little League baseball team because of his small height. His mother Diana Collins played a key role in making him what he is now.

She said on CNBC Make It that her son was not considered to be ineligible as he was relatively small to become a professional athlete standing at a height of 5 feet 9 inches.

When he was 5 years of age, Collins revealed that Betts had trouble being a part of the local Little League teams as the coach told that her son was too small to be in the team.

She said,

"He said, 'No, I don't really think [so]. I really need some bigger kids. I've got enough small kids and I'm trying to balance my team out."

Collins tried her best securing Betts a spot in the league's other coaches but everyone said that they had open roster spots only for larger kids.

"I said, 'Give him a chance because he really can play."

"Mookie was getting kind of discouraged. You know how kids are when they see somebody say 'No.'"

She met one of the Little League officials and asked them to add more teams to the league where she was told to be a coach. It was how she became the first baseball coach of the future MLB All-Star.
