Two Police officers; Tony Morelli, 54, and Eric Joering, 39 were killed at home in Westerville, Columbus while responding 911 call on Saturday. The Westerville Police Department Chief Joe Morbitzer told the officers responded to a 911 hang-up call Saturday morning for a potential domestic situation in a press conference Sunday morning.

Morbitzer told Joering died on the scene whereas Morelli died in a local hospital during surgery. He said,

The officers gave their lives in defense of others.

He later called the officers ''true American heroes.'' Morbitzer said,

These were two of the best we have, this was their calling. They both gave their life for the protection of others and that's what they lived and breathed.

 The suspect, Quentin Lamar Smith, who was initially taken to the hospital is under custody now, police spokeswoman Christa Dickey said. She added the suspect has been charged with two counts of aggravated murder.

President Donald Trump conducted his condolences to the police officers, their families, and all at the @WestervillePD in a tweet.

The 911 caller is identified as Smith's wife, Candice Smith. Police records suggest the officers had previously visited him for reports of domestic violence.
