Some celebrities tend to have their own unique taste when it comes to their preference for the right partner. For Rory Mcilroy, the second time proved to be the charm as he called off his engagement from a famous star to end up with a girl of his dreams who was just a regular lady.

Rory Mcllory realized better late than never that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with a woman who he can connect with on all levels rather than someone who has incredible stardom.

Rory Mcilroy's Married Life

Rory Mcilroy is married to his gorgeous wife Erica Stoll. The couple got engaged in December 2015 while on holiday in Paris and subsequently shared their wedding vows at the Ashford Castle in Ireland on 22nd April 2017.

The ceremony was attended by a number of high profile personalities, most notably, golfers such as Sergio Garcia, Shane Lowry, Martin Kaymer and Paul McGinley. Other celebrities were Jamie Dornan and Niall Horan.

As per The Irish Independent, a full orchestra was performed by Stevie Wonder, who also performed at the post-wedding celebrations the following day.

The wedding took place at a 350-acre castle where only those attending the ceremony stayed leading up to the couple's big day. As per the Mirror, the pair celebrated their honeymoon in Barbados.

Earlier, the duo revealed how they first met. Mcilroy spoke with the Independent, where he talked about how things clicked between the two.

The Golfer said:

"The thing I love about it is that we were friends before anything romantic happened."

He continued:

"We met when she was working for the PGA of America, and renting a condo in Palm Beach, and I found it refreshing being with someone who was living a normal life rather than, ‘Oh! My jet is 30 minutes late!'"

Mcilroy further admitted, he can talk to his wife about anything. He claims there is no judgment on Stoll's part when they're communicating.

The Golfer said:

"I could speak to her about anything, we ended up spending a bit of time together and realized that there was something more there."

Rory added, he loves the fact that his wife knows everything about him and there was no judgment there. In fact, there was no judgment from day one, which he believes is huge since it is very difficult to find someone as such in his position.

During an interview, a fellow golfer Shane Lowry talked about the couple where he claimed their private wedding is one of the many ways Stoll has managed to keep herself out of the spotlight.

Lowry said:

"He’s obviously one of the world’s best golfers and a huge celebrity in Ireland, but Erica very much keeps herself to herself and she’s not into being out there at all."

Shane added this was precisely the way the couple preferred to have their wedding, so fair play to them.

Mcilroy Wanted A Partner Who Was Not A Celebrity

Before meeting his eventual spouse, Mcilroy was previously engaged to a tennis star named Caroline Wozniacki. However, the golfer called off their engagement.

Talking to Golf.com, Caroline revealed Mcilroy ended things over the phone. She said:

"I was shocked, I thought at least I would get a face-to-face or something but there was nothing. It was just a phone call and then I did not hear from him again."

Later, the golfer talked about how refreshing he found being with outside the spotlight. Speaking to the Independent, Rory said:

"Yeah, I did wonder about that. How does someone who gets sucked into that bubble of celebrity find love? How do you find someone who loves you for who you are? Yeah, how do you?"

Mcilroy claims he initially thought being with someone who was in a similar position to him was the obvious answer. However, he later realized it isn't since one can never get away from it.

The golf star believes you can never detach yourself and return to the real world. Precisely the reason Rory feels he found himself in such a good place with Erica.

Mcilroy claims Erica does not want him to change in any way. He can be himself around her and 'there’s no bull - no acting, no show'.

Previously, the golf star also dated Holly Sweeney from 2003 to 2011. Moreover, he was rumored to have a fling with Meghan Markle in 2014.
