Enrique Peña Nieto is oldest of four siblings and was raised into an upper-class family. His mother, María, worked as a school teacher while his father, Gilberto, was an engineer at the national electric company. Educated as a lawyer, Nieto had served as Secretary of Administration for the state of Mexico from 2000-2002, as Representative of the 13th District of the State of Mexico of 2005-2011 prior to becoming President. He was elected President on July 1, 2012, winning 39% of the vote and returning the Institutional Revolutionary Party to power after 12 years of hiatus.

Enrique Peña Nieto was born on July 20, 1966, in Atlacomulco, the State of Mexico to father, Gilberto Enrique del Mazo, and mother, Maria del Perpetuo Socorro Ofelia Nieto Sanchez. His mother, María, worked as a school teacher while his father, Gilberto, was an engineer at the national electric company. His uncles were former governors of the State of Mexico

Enrique Peña Nieto is the oldest of four siblings and was raised into an upper-class family. Nieto attended Denis Hall School in Alfred, Maine where he learned English during one year of junior high school in 1979.

Nieto moved to Mexico City in 1984 and enrolled at the Panamerican University for Bachelor of Arts degree in legal studies. He earned his master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) at the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM)

Enrique Peña Nieto's political career began while he was just 18. At the time, he joined the Institutional Revolutionary Party. He worked for a public notary in Mexico City during his final years of college.

Nieto formal political career started under the mentorship of Montiel Rojas when he became the Secretary of the Citizen Movement of Zone I of the State Directive Committee of the National Confederation of Popular Organizations. He moved to the higher and more qualified offices from having low-level secretary positions from the early 2000s.

IN 2003, Nieto was elected to a local deputy position in the Atlacomulco State of Mexico. In 2005, Nieto succeeded Montiel Rojas as governor of the State of Mexico. He served as the governor for six long years until 2011 when he gave his candidacy for the 2012 presidential election.

He won the 2012's presidential election beating nearest competitor, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. On December 1, 2012, Nieto swore as the 57th Mexican president and has still been serving as the president.

In 1993, Enrique Pena Nieto married his longtime girlfriend Monica Pretelini Saenz. The couple gave birth to three children; Paulina, Alejandro, and Nicole. The couple remained in a happily married relationship for 14 years until his wife Pretelini died on 11 January 2007, of an epileptic episode.
