James Curtis DeBarge was born on August 22, 1963, in Detroit, Michigan U.S. He is the seventh child of mother Etterlene Abney DeBarge and Robert DeBarge. He raises with his siblings on the East Side of Detroit.
He is of American nationality and belongs to an African- American and French ethnicity. DeBarge attended local high school in Detroit.
Career
DeBarge started his career as a singer in 1980. Along with his brothers, he started a band DeBarge in early 1980 and they released their self-titled debut album in 1981.
