Serge Jonas Ibaka is a Congolese-Spanish Basketball player who is famous for his time in the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association. The Power Forward is playing basketball as his profession since 2007. He was once in a relationship with singer Keri Hilson for 4-years.
Serge Ibaka Early Life
Serge Jonas Ibaka was born on September 18th, 1989, in Brazzaville, Congo. He is the third-youngest child of his parents among 18 of his siblings. His mother and father used to play basketball and he grew up in the house of basketball lovers.
The 28-year-old basketballer during his time in the high school started playing basketball. At first, it was a means of distracting himself after the death of his mother and his father got arrested during Second Congo War.
He moved to France after turning 17 and started playing for a second division basketball team. Soon he again moved to Spain and played for CB L' Hospitalet.
Serge Ibaka Career
During his early childhood, he made a decision of making Basketball his profession. After making a mark in Europe from his spectacular play, Serge was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in the year 2008.
Oklahoma City Thunder then decided to keep him in Europe for some time. He joined the team in 2009 and soon made his way into the team as a regular for the whole season. In 2011 NBA lockout Real Madrid Basketball team signed him up in a 2-months contract.
He remained City Thunder for four seasons before moving to Orlando Magic on 23rd June 2016. He played there for one season before getting transferred to his current team, Toronto Raptors.
His career in the national team is full of controversies as despite being born in Congo he chose to represent Spain. In 2011, after being granted the Spanish Citizenship, he made his debut with the team eventually winning the 2011 Eurobasket. He also played for Spain during the 2012 Summer Olympics.
