Professional Surfer Sunny Garcia Hospitalized and Strugging With His Health In Intensive Care Amid Depression.
"If you are chronically down, it is a lifelong fight to keep from sinking." Surfing legend Sunny Garcia has been admitted in the intensive care unit at a hospital in Oregon.

Though some early reports suggested that the sports star Sunny Garcia who is open about his mental health state had died, the World Surf League opened on Tuesday that he is in a critical condition at a Portland hospital on Tuesday. He was reportedly found unconscious at his home.
The organization confirmed,
"With heavy hearts, we confirm that Sunny Garcia is in the ICU in the hospital. Sunny has always been a great champion of surfing, both in and out of the water. Our prayers are with him and his loved ones at this deeply challenging time."
Garcia wrote in March,
"Doesn’t matter what kind of mental illness you suffer from, we all suffer in silence and deal with it best we can."
Hours after sharing an emotional Instagram post, the 49-year-old was admitted in the hospital within hours. He posted an image of himself as a teenager with a bright smile holding a snow cone. He captioned,
"If I told this kid the things he would go through and things he would achieve he would tell me I’m crazy. Wow, it’s been a crazy ride since this photo was taken."
Initially, the six-time Triple Crown titlist and 2000 world champion disclosed his struggles with depression via an Instagram post that said, "#needhelp” and “#whatswrongwithme".
WHO reports that "Depression is a common mental disorder. Globally, more than 300 million people of all ages suffer from depression."

He continued,
"Depression is no joke waking up feeling like you’re ready to take on the world then a couple hours later feeling down on life and wondering what’s wrong with you."
"Well I know I’m not alone and I’m not sure what’s wrong with me because I have no reason to feel the way I do. It’s been happening for about two years and would love to hear from any of you who suffer these feelings so I can figure out what I should do."
A representative of the Vincent Sennen Garcia initially denied responding to PEOPLE.

Soon after the news about his hospitalization surfaced in media, many people associated with him and the surfing community posted well-wishing to Garcia.
Surfer Jeremy Flores wrote on Instagram, "Come on brother we need you here! It’s not your time yet, you’re a warrior! Love you Sunny."
In addition, Kelly Slater added,
"Sunny…I love you, brother. I just can’t even fathom you not here. We’ve got so much more living to do before we are done. There’s been hard times but there have been so many good ones, too. Just praying you wake up and we get more of you."
Active in the world of surfers since the age of five, he is the second surfer in history achieving more than a million dollars in prize money in his entire career. Also, he is the most filmed and photographed surfers ever in the record.
