His name Andre was actually given by his father who named him after his close friend and teammate Andre Townsend.
Andre is living a happy and wonderful married life with Bethany. The couple has two children with a stepdaughter, Aysha, born in 1993 as Bethany was married before which ended in a divorce.
Bethany gave birth to a son, Quincy, born in the year 2007. They currently reside near Los Angeles as a complete family.

Carter was selected in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers used 3-4 defense under Head Coach Mike Nolan and that's the reason why Carter was moved to outside linebacker.
He successfully made 154 solo tackles, 32 sacks, and 12 pass deflections in just 69 games while he was in the 49ers.
Andre signed a contract of six years duration with the Washington Redskins as an unrestricted free agent on 14 March 2006. The contract worth $30 million.
Carter was moved to his original position, the defensive end within the first year with the Redskins. It was the time when he had 56 total tackles and six sacks with a gradual improvement in 2007 with 55 tackles and 10.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles.
He totaled with 11 sacks in the year 2009; making the record of most sacks in a single game. He was out of the contract with the Redskins on 1 March 2011.
Carter disclosed on his Twitter page that he would be playing the game for the New England Patriots on August 7 the same year.
As per Rapoport, Carter signed a one-year contract with a basic salary of $1.75 million. He further received a $500k bonus with another $500k as an incentive.
He re-signed a deal with the Patriots on 22 October 2013 adding a veteran presence to a Patriots defense that lost Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo to season ending injuries earlier in the season.
