McDonald tweeted: "Who knew that tap dancing during perimenopause could lead to pregnancy? Will and I are completely surprised – and elated – to be expecting a new addition to our family. I am so very grateful to everyone in New York and London for allowing me to rearrange my schedule to accommodate this little miracle. While I'm disappointed I have to postpone my West End debut in Lady Day, I'm glad I'll be able to spend a little more time inShuffle Along this summer."

The end of her full-time run on Private Practice ended, she left the Broadway. She’s the six-time Tony winner and she picked right back up where she left off on Broadway. She also has remained in the limelight ever since. She's currently leading the hit revival of the musical Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921and All That Followed.

McDonald also said that she is going to set up a "1920s-themed nursery" in her dressing room when she returns to the show. But for now, she’s concerned about her maternity leave, which is going to start from July 24.
The actress also has a daughter, Zoe Madeline Donovan, 15, from her previous marriage to Peter Donovan, while Swenson has two sons with his ex-wife.
McDonald and Swenson first met in 2007 when they co-starred in the Broadway revival of 110 in the Shade. They started dating in 2010 and tied the knot in October 2012.
