The Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group released a statement saying that Arnauld, 38, was performing during the company's show VOLTA when he plummeted to the stage. It wasn't the first tragedy to hit the company. In June 2013, the 31-year-old acrobat and aerialist Sarah Guillot-Guyard died after he fell during a show at a Las Vegas casino.

A Cirque du Soleil performer, Yann Arnaud, has died after he fell on the stage during a performance in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, 17th March.

The Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group released a statement revealing that Arnauld, 38, was performing during the company's show VOLTA when he plummeted to the stage.

Arnauld was taken to the nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The Cirque du Soleil group announced the death of the aerialist and expressed their great sorrow in a statement released on Twitter.

Daniel Lamarre, the president and CEO of the entertainment group, said in the statement,

The entire Cirque du Soleil family is in shock and devastated by this tragedy. Yann had been with us for over 15 years and was loved by all who had the chance to know him.

In the statement, the company also confirmed it had canceled the last two shows of VOLTA scheduled for Sunday, 18th March.

One of the audiences, Julien Martinez, told WFLA that he witnessed the accident. He said,

It was awful. You heard all the cries of the audience. There were children and they were freaking out.

He added,

It kinds of colors our opinions of what is going to behind the scenes. What is the cost of our entertainment at that point?
