Some common period problems              

Monthly period or menstruation is the monthly discharge of blood that is shed from the uterus lining of women that occurs when the egg isn't fertilized.

It's important to know that every woman face different period problem and there's no such thing as a normal period. 

  • Pre-menstrual Syndrome

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is one of the most common period problems that a woman experience one to two weeks before period.

The symptoms include bloating, irritability, backaches, headaches, breast soreness, cravings, acnes, insomnia, stress, diarrhea and stomach cramps.

Some women may also experience mood swings and emotional trauma or weakness during this uncomfortable times.

  • Heavy Periods

Unlike PMS, heavy periods can be considered as a medical condition that could cause long-term health problems.

Heavy periods or menorrhagia/ hypermenorrhea is a menstrual disorder where bleeding occurs more than normal and also for a long period of time.

The cause behind this condition is mostly due to hormonal imbalance but it could be also due to:

  • Vaginal infections
  • Inflammation of the cervix
  • Hypothyroidism
  • noncancerous uterus tumors
  • changes in diet or exercise
  • Absent Periods

Absent periods or Amenorrhea is another menstrual disorder where women do not get their period. You might sure have heard of this condition of your friends or sisters telling you that they have not had their periods since months.

Primary amenorrhea is the late first period, often when you don't menstruate by 16 years whereas secondary amenorrhea is the condition when you stop getting regular periods for six months or more.

The causes of amenorrhea include

  • ovarian cysts
  • weight loss
  • birth controls
  • hyperthyroidism
  • anorexia
  • pregnancy
  • Irregular Periods

 The average menstrual cycle ranges from 28-35 days and the menstruation usually lasts up to 7 days.

But when you experience variation in your periods in length and flow then it is due to irregular periods, also known as oligomenorrhea.

Irregular bleeding can be pretty overwhelming and hectic as there's no exact track when will it start or stop.

Factors causing this includes:

  • thyroid disorders
  • hormonal imbalance
  • liver disease
  • tuberculosis
  • irritable bowel syndrome
  • diabetes
  • recent birth or miscarriage
  • polycystic ovarian syndrome
  • uterine abnormalities and so on.
  • Painful Periods

Painful menstrual cramps, known as dysmenorrhea is a common problem, most women face during periods.

Period cramps are normal but when the pain excruciates then it's classified as dysmenorrhea. The reason underlying this condition include:

  • Abnormal tissue growth outside of uterus
  • fibroids
  • pelvic inflammatory disease

- Staying hydrated
