Mariel Zagunis is the second U.S. fencer in history winning the World Cup total-points Title from the FIE.
She competed at the 2004 Sumer Olympics for the first time. She defeated Romania's Catalina Gheorghitoaia in semifinals and faced Chinese fencer in finals.

She defeated her by 15-9 and became the first American to win an Olympic fencing gold medal in 100 years. She played the individual event in the 2008 Summer Olympics winning all three medals in finals.
