Michael and his wife, Nicole Phelps chose Instagram to announce the news of their second child on Tuesday, 29 August.
Phelps posted an image of Nicole holding her 15-month-old son, Boomer.
"Number 2 on the way!!!! So excited!!" the Olympic swimmer wrote. "Wonder if it's a boy or a girl??"
Nicole added a post that featured the happy mother and the baby.
"Lil mans going to be a Big Brother!!!"
The couple welcomed Boomer in May 2016 and they are very excited to be the parents for the second time.
He also took fan questions via live video, he teased saying:
"Baby number two may be coming soon. Who knows, though?"
The couple celebrated Boomer's first birthday in the month of May this year and shared the happiness to the world with a twitter post:
"One-year ago.. @mrs.nicolephelps and I had the privilege to welcome @boomerrphelps to this world. For me, it's the best thing that ever happens to me!!"

Michael and Nicole after dating for a while married in a secret ceremony. Phelps himself disclosed that he tied the knot with his long time girlfriend privately through a Facebook Live video but didn't reveal why he kept it quiet.
The couple exchanged vows a month later their first child was born in June at the El Dorado Golf & Beach Club in front of their friends and family.
The pair, however, remarried in the late October in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Both of them are living a blissful and wonderful married life with no divorce rumors or any other affairs.

Michael became the youngest male to make a U.S. Olympic swim team qualifying for the 2000 Summer Olympics. He broke the world record in the 200m at the 2001 World Aquatics Championships at 15 years and 9 months.
He won three golds and two silvers at the 2002 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Yokohama, Japan with four gold, two silver and five bronze the next year.
He was trained for the Summer Olympics in 2008 and set the record of 400 meters. He broke the record of Mark Spitz's record in 1972 winning seven gold in a single game.
With a vast record of gold and silvers in series Phelps retired from swimming after 2012 Olympics. He said,
"I'm done. I'm finished. I'm retired. I'm done. No more," and that "I just wanted to be done with swimming and didn't want anything to do with the sport anymore."
Later on, however, in the year 2014, Michael made his comeback after retirement.
He has collected a total of 28 medals with 23 gold itself. His performance in the Rio Olympics 2016 was the extraordinary one. He made a record of "winning multiple gold medals at 31 years old, well beyond the typical peak for male swimmers".
He's declared one of the greatest Olympians of all time.
