Who was Robert Blake? Was He Married?

Late actor Robert Blake was best known for his role in the 1967 film In Cold Blood: The actor married three times in his lifetime!

Actor Robert Blake died from heart disease at 89 on March 9, 2023. Although a talented actor of his time, Blake's career never peaked as it should have. The actor also never recovered from the damage his controversial personal life brought upon his career. Robert started acting as a kid and landed his breakthrough in the 1970s television series Baretta. He went on to star in Hollywood classics like Treasure of the Sierra Madre and In Cold Blood.

Born Michael James Vincenzo Gubitosi on September 18, 1933, in Nutley, New Jersey, he kicked off his acting pursuit after running away from home as a teenager. Blake's early work in Bridal Suite, Our Gang, Andy Hardy's Double Life, and more eventually led to more notable works on television and mainstream cinema. Blake's career, which spanned almost six decades, is often considered one of the longest careers in Hollywood. The Emmy-winning actor's professional life fell apart after he was arrested, tried, and acquitted in the killing of his second wife.

Inside Robert Blake's Married Life!

Known for his tempestuous life and rancorous attitude, Blake's personal life doesn't evoke pleasant conversation. Not that the actor's professional stint begged much respect for him except for his spectacular portrayal of every character he ever played- Robert often picked fights with producers and fellow actors. While his sullen image in the public alluded to a lonesome life, Blake was a married man for most of his life.

The Baretta actor was a jobbing actor- certainly far away from his impending breakthrough when he married actress Sondra Kerr in 1961. During their 22 years long marriage, the couple welcomed two kids; Noah Blake, who was born in 1965, and Delinah Blake, born in 1966. The pair finalized their divorce in 1983. Where Blake went on and got himself a second wife and was embroiled in a murder scandal, Sondra remained single and focused on her career. Kerr's last credit was in the 2022 sci-fi film, Broadcast.

The In Cold Blood actor didn't jump into another marriage and remained single for a while until he met Bonny Lee Bakley in 1999. Bakley already had a tainted reputation for going after older celebrities and had been married nine times before she met Robert her tenth. Bonny's peculiar penchant for rich celebrities had even earned her the title of"celebrity-obsessed." But a romance ensued anyway.

"Here I was, 67 or 68 years old. My life was on hold. My career was stalled out," Robert said while recalling his first encounter with Bonny at a jazz club. "I'd been alone for a long time," the actor adds. Bakley was also seeing Christian Brando, the son of Marlon Brando, during her relationship with Blake, and when she gave birth to a daughter in 2000, a discrepancy persisted at first, but a DNA test revealed the daughter belonged to Robert. The pair named the child Rosie and went on to tie the knot the same year.

"Rosie is my blood. Rosie is a calling to me. I have no doubt that Rosie and I are going to walk off into the sunset together," the Baretta actor said while explaining his reason behind marrying Bonny, who was fatally shot in the head while she was waiting in Blake's car after their dinner at Studio City restaurant on 4 May 2001. The actor was arrested and charged with his wife's murder in 2002, with prosecutors claiming Blake killed his wife to gain the sole custody of their daughter.

Although the actor was later found not guilty because of the muddled evidence but was found liable for the wrongful death of Bonny in 2005. Blake was ordered to pay $30 million, which was later deducted to $15 million after an appeal, to his dead wife's kids. The actor maintained his innocence and quietly disappeared from the limelight after the scandal and married his longtime friend, Pamela Hudak, in 2017- only to file for divorce a year later.

Robert Blake's kids!

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre actor is survived by his three kids; Noah, 58, Delinah, 57, and Rose, 22. Blake's oldest, Noah, followed in his footsteps and ventured into acting and producing. Although Noah's career didn't reach the pinnacle of his father's, no matter how much marred it was, Noah, starred in a few and appeared in plenty of shows and films throughout his life, including in Mystery Men, Red Rooms, Teen Witch, and more.

The Baretta actor's secondborn, Delinah, remains completely wiped out from the public domain. Little records on Blake's second kid reveal that Delinah pursued a career in psychology. She is married to author Gregg Andrew Hurwitz. Blake's youngest, Rosie, was at the forefront of a media debacle once when her father was accused of murdering her mother. In a rare interview, Rose shared how the events unfolded a traumatic childhood for her. Rose was raised by her relatives and her half-sister.
