According to the Korea Herald, the 29-year-old star, the oldest member of BTS, will report for military duty on December 13 at the Yeoncheon army base in the northern Gyeonggi province.

In South Korea, most non-disabled men are compelled to perform 18 months of military service by the time they turn 28 years old as part of the country's compulsory military.

Pop singers who "excel in popular culture and art" were allowed to postpone their mandatory military duty until 30 under a law that the South Korean government approved in 2020.

Based on the procedures typically followed, Jin's military career will start with a basic training program that lasts five weeks before being placed in a specific unit.

Jin, who will be 30 on December 4, will be the first member of BTS to register in the military, as was announced by the group's record label a month ago. BTS intends to fulfil its mandatory military service requirements as a group.

Following rumours that Jin will soon be enlisting in the military, he took to the fan community app Weverse on Thursday to warn his followers not to go to the military training centre in the hopes of catching sight of him there. 

"Reports have gone out against my desire, but our ARMYs (BTS fans), should not come to the training center," he tweeted. "Army" is an acronym for "Army of the Boy Scouts." "Because there will be a large number of people in addition to myself coming to the location, it has the potential to become a dangerous situation. ARMY, I adore you."

BTS has been regularly compared to The Beatles, even going so far as to shatter one of the English rock band's records by having three albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart in the same year.

Their passionate fan base, which they refer to as the "BTS Army," is responsible for propelling their music and rallying to the group's defence on social media in 2019, when the group was not nominated for any Grammys. They are up for three Grammy Awards in the year 2023, thanks to the nominations they received.

BTS said in June that it would put its music career on hold so that its members may focus on their military duty obligations. According to the information provided by the group's record label, it is anticipated that the group will return in 2025.
