Eight Is Enough Star Adam Rich Dies at 54
Adam Rich, a child actor known for his role on the television show Eight is Enough, has passed away. He was 54.
As stated in a statement sent by his publicist on Sunday, Adam Rich, a famous actor known for his role on the television show Eight is Enough, has passed away. He was 54.
As per Vulture, Rich died on Saturday at his residence in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, as per Lieutenant Aimee Earl of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner Coroner's office.
After playing the role of Nicholas Bradford from 1977 to 1981, Rich had a career in acting, although it wasn't very successful.
He had multiple run-ins with the law due to substance abuse and alcoholism, and he eventually got treatment at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage.
According to Rich's publicist, Danny Deraney, Rich suffered from a form of depression resistant to therapy. He worked hard to eliminate the shame associated with discussing mental illness. Throughout the years, he attempted a variety of unproven treatments without any success.
Deraney and a few other people close to Rich have been unable to contact him for the past few weeks, which has caused them concern. Deraney stated, "He was just an extremely kind, generous, and loving soul. He did not always have the intention of becoming a well-known actor. He didn't have any ego, not even a grain of it."
Additionally, Deraney reminisced about Rich on Twitter, writing: "Whenever Adam and I talked baseball, we would do so over the phone. We were both big fans of the Yankees, but I'd say he was more of a Dodgers fan. Something about which you are unaware... In December of 1980, he was in New York City, and it was then that he had the opportunity to meet John Lennon."
On Twitter, Rich opened up about his struggles with mental health and disclosed in October that he had been clean and sober for seven years. He admitted that he had made mistakes, such as getting arrested, spending a lot of time in rehabilitation, experiencing multiple overdoses, and undergoing countless detoxes and relapses.
Almost 27 years ago, Rich was a participant in a hoax that was perpetrated by Might magazine. The story claimed that the actor had been murdered during a heist outside a Los Angeles nightclub in 1996.
Rich starred in Code Red from 1981 to 1982 and provided the voice for the character of Presto the Magician in Dungeons & Dragons from 1983 to 1985. He appeared in both of the Eight is Enough TV movie reunions, featuring him in his most famous role.
However, most of his acting career consisted of guest-starring on episodes of prominent TV series such as The Love Boat, Silver Spoons, The Six Million Dollar Man, and Baywatch.
