John once wrote that he had spent his entire life working toward uniting people via music. "Yet it breaks my heart to watch how false information is exploited to drive a wedge between people worldwide. Because of Twitter's recent policy change, which will make it easier for incorrect information to go unchecked, I have decided to stop using the platform."

About a month ago, Twitter announced it would no longer enforce its ban on misleading material concerning COVID-19. The corporation announced that it would implement a "five-strike system" to deal with those who disseminated assertions that were "clearly untrue or misleading" on the illness.

The decision of Elton to leave the platform has been followed by several other users, including renowned personalities, who have sworn to refrain from posting until a policy change is implemented. Following Musk's acquisition of Twitter on 27 October, several well-known celebrities, such as Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jameela Jamil, quit the platform.

According to one user, "So Twitter 2.0 won't have Elton John, but it will have individuals attempting to get children's hospitals attacked."

As one might expect, there was a mountain of comments spreading the same kind of false information that ultimately led the pop artist to abandon the site.

Others started making unfounded accusations about John because of his age, his sexuality, or his music, which has sold more than 300 million records worldwide.

Musk responded to the tweet by writing that he is a fan of Elton John's music and that he hoped the singer would return. He also asked the user what false information he was worried about.

Musk's answer to a comment that claimed the tweet was made by a "newly minted Marxist" social media manager "with brain damage" was as follows: "It's true that most celebs don't write their posts."

Users were astonished by Musk's response, and one commented, "You don't get it, do you? This is a big issue for hundreds of millions of people. Antisemitism, racism, COVID-19 (misinformation), hate speech, and rhetoric that incites violence are all examples of hate speech. You opened the cage doors and let the criminals to come back in."

In addition, voice actor Tara Strong stated, "virtually every celebrity I know creates their own Twitter."

A recent investigation by the New York Times discovered that the amount of hate speech directed toward LGBTQ+ minorities on Twitter increased after Musk purchased the network.

It was discovered that anti-LGBTQ+ remarks had increased by at least 1,458 times each day, even though the owner of Twitter claimed that they had decreased.
