Mitchell was born on November 25, 1974, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He began his acting career in the late 1990s, appearing in various films and television shows. He rose to fame for his portrayal of the Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik, as well as Aurellio, on Star Trek: Discovery.

In addition, he also voiced several characters in an episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks. In addition, he played Joseph Danvers, the father of superhero Carol Danvers, in Captain Marvel. Some of his other notable roles include Miracle, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, and Criminal Minds.
