According to the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred at two in the afternoon in Wasatch County, Utah, while Block was driving a snowmobile down a steep slope.
As per the Sheriff's Office, Block was thrown off of his snowmobile, which fell on top of him, and he eventually succumbed to the injuries he incurred in the accident at the scene of the accident.
According to The Daily Mail, The Sheriff's Office stated, "Mr. Block was riding with a group but alone when the accident occurred. It will be up to the Office of the State Medical Examiner to identify the official cause of death. Before beginning a career as a rally driver, Ken Block was a co-founder of the sportswear company DC Shoes in 1994. Since its inception, DC Shoes has grown to become one of the most well-known skating gear brands in the entire globe.
In 2005, Block took up the sport of rallying for the first time, and in 2007, he made his debut on the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) circuit in Mexico. Between 2006 and 2015, he participated in 25 WRC events and won five X Games medals in RallyCross.
Thierry Neuville, a Belgian rally racer, said, "Shocked and heartbroken to hear of the demise of a great icon of our sport. A dedicated racer and genuine trailblazer who motivated a great number of us. Have a peaceful rest, buddy - my deepest condolences to the afflicted party's loved ones and friends."
Block also rose to celebrity thanks to the YouTube series Gymkhana, in which he demonstrated various driving feats and drifts in multiple locales across the United States and the rest of the world. The videos have amassed hundreds of millions of views due to their enormous popularity.
"I am in complete disbelief over the passing of Ken Block." Former Formula One driver Jenson Button paid tribute on Twitter, saying, "Such a talent that contributed so much to our sport."
