Yukihiro Takahashi Passes Away at 70. Yukihiro cemented himself as one of the prolific Japanese musicians who co-founded the electronic band "Yellow Magic Orchestra." Yukihiro is survived by his wife, Kiyomi.
Yukihiro Takahashi, the drummer and vocalist for the leading Japanese electronic act Yellow Magic Orchestra have passed away as per an announcement released on Sunday. At the age of 70, Yukihiro underwent several treatments. The Japan Times reported that he had a brain tumor eliminated in 2020.
Many pour their heart out to pay tribute to Takahashi's musical journey. "Saddened to heart about the passing of Yukihiro Takahashi of Yellow Magic Orchestra and beyond. It was an honor to cross paths on occasion throughout the year," the band Sparks posted on their official Twitter page.
Takashi's YMO bandmate Sakamoto Musician Akiko Yano wrote, "YMO Goes Forever." Meanwhile, musician Akiko Yano in honor of the late Takahashi, wrote," YMO Goes Forever."
Born in 1952, Yukihiro began drums professionally while still in high school, for TV commercials, and works as a session drummer. Sadistic Mika Band requested her to join two decades later, which became a global recognition, mainly in parts of the United Kingdom.
At just sixteen years old, he picked up both as a drummer in different bands and for numerous TV commercials. In 1978, the musician co-founded the Yellow Magic Orchestra and self-titled. The album sales reached over 250,000 copies in Japan and cemented its Billboard R & B Chart position.
Talking about his band, Yellow Magic Orchestra is one of the best Japanese music artists of all time and has inspired the bands such as Depeche Mode and Duran Duran. He was active on his own, publishing over 20 albums and creating remixes, film scoring work, and complications.
Following the break up of the Sadistic Mika Band separated in 1975, the late musician recorded with other artists across Japan. He strongly bonded with Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto, and the trio created a synth-pop group in 1978. He played some of their legendary songs like "Rydeen" in 1980.
Furthermore, the band got influenced by arcade games and disco music. Takahashi re-united with Honsono in 2002 as Sketch Show, teaming up with Sakamoto. Along with Towa Tei, Tomohiko Gonod, Keigo Oyamada, Yoshinori Sunahara, and Leo Imai, backing band on his 2014 tour.
In 2016, Takahashi released his new electro-pop work Metafive with his solo backing group members. His solo work was reissued on Vinyl, while his first project, "Saravah!" was reissued in 2019 through "We Want Sounds."
