He is a retired journalist and anchor who served as an anchorman for WRAL-TV based in North Carolina for more than two decades. He was named to the Mid-South Emmy Award Silver Circle. He received his degree from Guilford College and has received Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Pembroke State University. He was inducted to the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1994.
