Jacqueline Anne Oatley, also known as Jacqui Oatley, is a British TV presenter of ITV Sports and BBC Sports. She gained popularity as a first female commentator on the BBC One’s flagship football program, match of the day. She was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the year 2016 for serving broadcasting and diversity in sports. She is married to Jamie and lives in Hinchley Wood along with two children one daughter and one son.
Early Life and Career
Jacqui was born in the year 1975 in the city of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. She is the daughter of late Gerald, managing director of a large gas appliance company, and mother Sonja, a retired nurse.
From her childhood, she loves watching football and is a football enthusiast. She is a big fan of Wolverhampton Wanderers. She joined the junior school, St Dominic’s in Brewood, Staffordshire and passed A-level from Wolverhampton Grammar School.
Later, in 1996, she graduated from University of Leeds situated in German and traveled different parts of the world and later settled in London. There she worked as a Sales and Marketing manager in intellectual property. She also worked as an Accounting manager there.
Jacquie wanted to become a football player when she was a child. But unfortunately, when she was playing amateur football for Chiswick Ladies Football Club, she sustained a dislocated knee cap and ruptured her ligaments. After the operation, she was told she would no longer be able to play sports.
Her injury opened a new career path for her and she became a journalist. She studied print journalism and radio production at evening classes in hospital radio. She completed postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at Sheffield Hallam University.
On 21st April 2007, she debuted as a broadcaster for the Premier League match between Fulham F.C. and Blackburn Rovers F.C. Till that time, she was only the commentator in the history of BBC football program.
She has commentated on several games including Women’s World Cup 2007 in China, football matches for BBC Television during the Beijing Olympics, Euro 2009 between German and England, Great Britain Woman’s Olympic Football team for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Apart from this, she has presented sports news on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 Live and has covered the World Snooker Championship, British Moto GP, Open Championship golf and rugby league.
Personal Life
Jacqui is married to Jamie. This couple is blessed with a baby girl Phoebe and a baby boy Max. Phoebe was born in April 2011 and three years later, Max was born.
Now, the family is living a lavish lifestyle in the city of Hinchley Wood.
