Joseph Crowley is the US Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district. He is the member of the Democratic Party and is the chairman of the Queens County Democratic Party and the Democratic Caucus as well. He is married and has three children.
Early Life and Education
Joseph Crowley was born on 16th March 1962 in the New York City, New York, the U.S. under the birth sign Pisces. He is American and belongs to American-Irish ethnicity. His father was an Irish-American and his mother was a Catholic immigrant from County Armagh, Northern Ireland. His paternal uncle was also a politician.
Crowley completed his schooling at New York City Roman Catholic School and Power Memorial Academy. He graduated earning a degree in political science from the Queens College.
Career
Crowley began his career in politics as a member of the New York State Assembly, from 1987 to 1998. He experienced a paradigm shift in his life in 1999 when the Congress gave his name for the general election ballot following the retirement of Thomas J. Manton.
In 2012, Crowley represented the 7th district but after a year, he represented the 14th congressional district of New York. Later, he served as a Democratic Caucus Vice-Chairman of the United States House of Representatives, which was one of the fifth highest positions in the House Democratic Caucus.
In 2001-02, Crowley authored a bill to provide the 9/11 Heroes Medal of Valor. He also made the Urban Area Security that helped to prevent the terrorism after his cousin, John Moran (a firefighter of New York) was killed in a terrorist attack. Later on, along with 81 House Democrats, he voted in the favor of the invasion of Iraq.
In 1999, he received 52% rating from National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL) and 53% from the National Right to Life Committee. He then supported the Abortion Funding Amendment that provided family planning services and also promoted abortion.Planned Parenthood endorsed Crowley in the 2010 elections. In 2011, he disagreed with a bill which would ban taxpayer funding for the abortion issues.
Crowley became the supporter of the 2010 Affordable Care Act in which he accessed the health care coverage. Later on, he received 100% ratings from American Nurses Associations, National Breast Cancer Coalition, and the American Public Health Associations.
In 2008, Crowley endorsed Financial Asset Purchase Authority and Tax Law Amendment, the bill established TARP ( Troubled Assets Relief Program) allowing the Secretary of the Treasury to purchase assets from financial institutions on the troubled list.
Crowley is an advocate of tax cuts for the middle class, tax increase for the highest tax brackets, and decreased defense expenses. He was for the 2009 Budget which made tax cuts for 23 million middle-class Americans and ended the Alternative Minimum Tax. Crowley also opposed a 2011 bill that allocated huge funds to the defense budget.
Crowley is the chairman of Queens Democratic Party, he delivered a speech supporting Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. In addition, he was also voted as a chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and is ranked fourth as the member of minority delegation.

Crowley is the cousin of Elizabeth Crowley, a New York City Councilwoman who also represents a portion of Queens County.
Crowley is very private about his romantic life. He is married and has three children. He tied the knot with Kasey Nilson in 1998. The pair had a private wedding ceremony that only a few of his close relatives attended.
