Maria Mudd Ruth is the author of more than a dozen books on natural history topics for the young readers, general audiences, and accidental naturalists like herself. She is a member of the Conservation Committee of the Black Hills Audbudon Society'in Olympia, Washington. Maria as an active advocate for marbled murrelet conservation and for the protection of a 150-acre woodland near her home for wildlife habitat and parkland.
She is married to Mike Ruth who is a mapmaker, GIS professor, and enthusiast. She resides with her husband in Olympia, Washington where she is currently busy in her project. They have been happily married and she once said that her husband is most supportive towards her work. She even credits her husband for all success she has achieved in her life and mention her husband's name in each book she publishes.
