Shirley Chung is a Chinese-American chef known for her creativity in the kitchen and her charisma in front of the cameras. Shirley Chung, born in December 1976 in Beijing, China, was raised by the culinary experiences her grandmother passed on. At 17 years old, she immigrated to the U.S. and went on to study business before shifting to culinary arts at the California Culinary Academy. Chung has cooked in some of the country's most esteemed kitchens, those of Thomas Keller and José Andrés, respectively, while gaining fame as a finalist on Top Chef.
She opened her restaurant, Twenty-Eight, in 2014 and wrote a cookbook called "Chinese Heritage Cooking From My American Kitchen." Shirley Chung's professional career has taken her through some of the most celebrated kitchens in the world, working under acclaimed chefs Thomas Keller, Guy Savoy, and Mario Batali. She was a Chef de Cuisine at the triple-award-winning CarneVino and an Executive Chef at the James Beard Award-nominated China Poblano in 2011.
