Susan Carland is the wife of Waleed Aly. She is known as for her role on the SBS comedy panel and sketch show Salam Cafe, where she is a founding member and presenter. Waleed completed her Bachelor of Arts and Science from Monash University. Waleed is currently on scholarship to do her PhD in politics and sociology, looking at the way Western Muslim women fight sexism within their own traditions and communities.
Susan is also as one of the international ‘Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow’ by the UN Alliance of Civilisations. Waleed is the co-creator of the Victorian Convert Support Service and has managed the Islamic Council of Victoria’s youth wing, Grassroots. Susan Carland is married to the writer, academic, lawyer, media presenter and musician Waleed Aly in 2003. The couple has two children daughter, Aisha Aly and son but has not revealed his name in social sites.
