Tate Rosner McRae was born on 1st July 2003 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She has a mother who is a dance instructor, Tanja Rosner, and a father, vice president of Pacific Energy, Todd McRae. She also has a brother, Tucker McRae, who took a hockey route. Tate has a dance and performing arts background from childhood. She has a Scottish father and a German mother.
Due to her father's work, the family moved to Oman for three years when she was two years old, where she attended school at The American International School Muscat. She began recreational dance training at age six and, upon returning to Calgary at age eight, took dance more seriously with studies at her mother's dance company as well as at ballet school.
