Tichina Arnold Biography

Early Life

Tichina Arnold was born on 28 June 1969 in Queens, New York to African-American parents. Her father was a police officer whereas her mother, Diane Arnold was a sanitation department worker. She grew up along with his sister, Zenay Arnold.

Arnold completed her graduation from the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. She is interested in acting since her early days.

Career

Tichina Arnold started her career in 1986 as a child artist; she is one of the three chorus girls in film musical Little Shop of Horrors. Later she appeared in various productions such as; Hard Times and Hair and also played a minor role in television films like The Brass Ring (1983) and House of Dies Drear (1984).

Arnold got her major break in 1987 in the soap opera, Ryan’s Hope where she portrays the role of Zena Brown and even won a nomination at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 1988. In 1992, she appeared in the American sitcom, Martin along with Martin Lawrence, the show ran till 1997.

Besides acting, she put her hands in business too. In 1998, she started her own designer headgear company, ‘China Moon Rags.' The company manufactured bandanas adorned with Swarovski crystals. 

Arnold worked on various movies and series like; Big Momma's House, One on One, Everybody Hates Chris, The Lena Baker Story, Pair of Kings and many more. She is actively involved in singing too, her duet 'Movin Up' along with her school friend, Inaya Day placed at number 2 position on the Billboard Countdown.

She also lent her voice in the episode of Attack of the Killer Kung-Fu Wolf Bitch and The Boondocks as Nicole/Brenda Richie.
Currently, she stars in the TV Land sitcom, Happily Divorced where she plays as Judi Mann, the best friend of the main character, Fran Drescher.

Arnold's contribution to the film industry won her numerous awards. In 1996, she was awarded Image Award for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series' for Martin. Again in 2006, she won the Image award in the same category for Everybody Hates Chris.

Personal Life

Tichina Arnold is possibly single at present but, previously she was married twice. In 1992, she tied the knot with Lamon Brewster, American heavyweight boxer. However, the couple couldn't handle their relationship and divorced in 1995.

Later, she exchanged vows with DaRico Hines, St. Johns, Men's Basketball Assistant Coach and former Golden State Warrior's Assistant Coach on August 18, 2012, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Same as her previous relationship this marriage also ended. In 2016, she announced her divorce with Hines after finding out about his affair.

Arnold was romantically involved with Carvin Haggins, a music producer and shares a daughter, Alijah Kai Haggins (born on 2004) with him. The couple later ended their love life because of their personal differences.

In 2000, her movie, Big Momma did a great at the box office; the movie succeeded to earn $173 million at the box office. Her next venture, Wild Hogs failed to win the hearts of audiences but managed to collect the impressive sum at the box office of $253.6 million.

She has a successful designer headgear company which adds to her income.
