He is the son of Lisa McNear Lombardi and Richard Warner Carlson, a former Los Angeles news anchor. He attended St. George's School, and studied history at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. He began his journalism career as a member of the editorial staff of Policy Review and joined CNN as its youngest anchor ever, remaining at the network until February 2005.

Tucker Carlson was born on May 16, 1969, in San Francisco, California to Richard Warner Carlson and Lisa McNear. His father is a former LA news anchor who was also president of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. His birth name is Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson.
He was raised along with his younger brother, Buckley Swanson Peck Carlson in La Jolla Calif by their dad and stepmom, Patricia after their mother left them when Tucker was just 6.
Carlson attends La Jolla Country Day School before relocating to the East Coast. Later, he joined the St. George's School, a boarding school in Middletown, Rhode Island. He completed his graduation from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 1992 with a B.A. in history.
Career
Tucker Carlson started his professional journalism career as a member of the editorial staff of Policy Review. Later he worked as a reporter at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper and The Weekly Standard.
He has been a columnist for New York and Reader's Digest as well as he wrote for Esquire, The Weekly Standard, The New Republic, The New York Times Magazine, and The Daily Beast.
In 2001, he joined the CNN and co-host the show named Crossfire and presents the political right. He worked for four years in CNN before leaving in January 2005. Later he joined MSNBC as an anchor and host the Tucker but due to the low rating his show was canceled and he left the channel in 2008.
Carlson was hired by Fox News in 2009 and he was the part of a different show but in November 2016 he gets a chance to run his own show, Tucker Carlson Tonight and still he is the part of the show.

Besides journalism and anchoring, he also participated in Dancing with the Stars in 2006. In 2010, he launched a political website, The Daily Caller in collaboration with former vice president Dick Cheney.
