A recipient of multiple accolades like Grammys, Tonys, an Oscar, and the Knighthood, Andrew Lloyd is an English composer and impresario. In his illustrious career, spanning over five decades, Lloyd has composed more than 20 musicals, hence, rising to the status of musical theatre supremo. Although the legend himself refuses to pick favorites from his copious hits, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard, and his breakthrough, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, are considered his best work.  

Born on March 22, 1948, in Kensington, London,  to composer William Lloyd Webber and violinist Jean Johnstone, Andrew's knack and penchant for music were innate but his contribution to the domain of art turned out to be prodigious and legendary. He started writing his music before turning ten and forayed into professional endeavor as a teenager. Lloyd, 75, who has been married thrice and is a father of five, one of whom recently died of cancer.

The famous composer is currently married to his third wife, Madeleine Gurdon, a horsewoman. But before Lloyd could find his forever partner in Gurdon, the composer had to suffer two failed marriages. The Grammy winner was first married to Sarah Hugill. Although not much if not about the pair's relationship, the duo reportedly dated for a year before tying the knot on  24 July 1971. The pair welcomed their firstborn, Imogen, in March 1977, and their son Nicholas, in July 1979.

Andrew and Hugil finalized their divorce after 12 years of marriage in 1983. The former pair are devastated as their son, Nicholas, died of cancer. "I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital," the composer said in his statement. The London-born impresario's first marriage was nearing its end when he met Sarah Brightman, who is thirteen years younger than him.

The pair met while Brightman auditioned for Andrew's Cats in 1981. Like Lloyd, Brightman was also married to another person but love brewed between the two anyway. "A private meeting was arranged at my London flat," the composer said while recalling his encounter with Sarah. He added, "I thought she had a nice voice and that was about it. It was a full two years before I clocked how good a singer she was." Brightman not only landed the role of Jamina in the musical but also won Lloyd's heart. 

The pair waited to finalize their divorces with their respective partners and got hitched at the first chance in 1984. "I'd just got married that day and nobody knew about it except the Queen," Sarah confessed. But Brightman's ambitions and her rocketing career strained their marriage. "Less than two years into our marriage there was often no one to come home to," the composer once shared. The pair confirmed their divorce after six years of marriage in 1990.

The Grammy-winning composer met his current wife, Gurdon, while he was still married to Brightman. Andrew's nuptial with Sarah had gone rocky and there were swirling rumors about Brightman's alleged affair with a keyboard player. "Hugely fond of her as I still am, things weren't the same for me after that," Andrew said while dishing on his unraveling relationship with Brightman. Lloyd married Gurdon on February 9, 1991, and went on to have three kids with her.

The pair's first kid, Andrew's third, Alastair, was born in May 1992, followed by the births of William Richard, in August 1993, and daughter Isabella, in April 1996. Gurdon, 60, who was described as a "top-notch equestrian who rides in Princess Anne's set," to Lloyd upon their first meeting, is not a fan of the showbiz world and has avoided the limelight throughout her marriage with her legendary husband.

Losing a child is the worst thing that can ever happen to a parent and Andrew is currently facing that great tragedy as he lost his son to stomach cancer. With the demise of his second eldest kid, Andrew is left to be a father to four. His oldest, Imogen, 45, successfully walked in her father's showbiz trajectory. She is a British broadcaster, author, and communication executive. Imogen's best-known credits are The Broadway.com Show (2013), The Tony Beat (2016), and more.

Lloyd's now-late son, Nicholas, was a Grammy-nominated composer and a record producer. Nicholas was best recognized for writing The Little Prince, Fat Friends The Musical, and scoring the BBC drama Love, Lies and Records. He is survived by his parents, sister, half-siblings, his wife, viola player Polly Wiltshire, and their two kids. Andrew's third kid, Alastair, was a music manager and now heads The Other Songs Limited as a director.

Lloyd's youngest two, William, also known as Billy, and Isabella, are also actively working in the music field but are keeping a low profile. While almost nothing is known about Billy, except for when his older brother Alastair opts to share anecdotes about him on his Instagram, Isabella is already winning in life at a young age. She founded her company Bella Webber in 2021 and is heading it as a creative director.
