Actress Karla Souza has opened up about the sexual harassment she suffered in her early career in a recent interview with CNN.
The 32-year-old How to Get Away with Murder star alleged a director, she denied to name, sexually assaulted her and raped during they were in Mexico for the shoot.
Speaking with the CNN en Español's Carmen Aristegui, Souza said she was raped by the director while she was filming for a series in her native Mexico.
The actress further said she had been separated from her castmates and was staying in a separate hotel where only she and the director had rooms. The director then started to come into her room at odd hours, she claimed. She said,
He knocked on my door saying he wanted to go over some scenes and I thought it's 2 a.m., it's not appropriate and it's something that shouldn't be happening.
Souza further told that the director knocked on her door again, but she refused to open the door. She said,
The next day he decided not to shoot my scene and then he suddenly started to humiliate me in front of the others on the set. This was the psychological control that he held over me.
Souza said after over a month of dealing with the director, she finally gave in. She said,
I ended up giving in to him [to let him] kiss me, to touch me in ways I didn't want him to touch me and in one of those instances, he attacked me violently and yes, he raped me.
She says she didn't speak at the time because she believed it would have ruined her acting career.
Souza's allegation has come after a series of sexual harassment allegation flooded the Hollywood after the New York Times and the New Yorker published articles detailing sexual misconducts by a Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
