With the information Reid also added;

"He(Harold Reid) leaves a large and loving family and millions of fans who remember his stage and TV antics with smiles and cherish his music that will live with the ages."

A statement was also released in his band, The Statler Brothers website which read:

"He is and will always be loved by his family, friends, and millions of fans. His singing, his songwriting and his comedy made generations happy. He has taken a piece of our hearts with him."

Harold, with his brother, Don Reid, co-founded the band The Statler Brothers, which is named after a facial tissue in the early sixties. In addition to brothers,  the group consisted of Phil Balsley as a baritone and Lew DeWitt (who was later replaced by Jimmy Fortune because of failing health) as tenor and guitarist.

In the beginning, the quartet traveled with legendary singer-songwriter Johnny Cash. After working as a back up for years for Cash, the group finally made their music in the seventies.  Their songs Bed of Rose's, Do You Know you Are My Sunshine, and Elizabeth were instantly popular. Not only that, but the band also won Grammy for the song The Class of '57, which was co-written by Harold with his brother.

The band continued to make songs till 1990, and in 1991 they starred in a highly -rated TNN variety series, which lasted for seven years. By 2002, the band was retired from the road.

Even after years, the songs of the band are still popular among their fans, and their hometown Staunton is now most recognized by them. Harold and other band members, even after becoming big in country music, did not move to Nashville. They stayed in Virginia and continued music from there, which was a risky move.

Furthermore, even though the band members did not have to retire in 2002 and could have continued to perform, but they chose to do so that they could spend more time with their family.
