Ashley Wagner, the three-time U.S. figure skating champion and 2014 Olympic bronze medalist, has welcomed her first child with her husband, Alex Clark, a former hockey player. The couple announced the happy news on their social media accounts on Friday, sharing adorable photos of their newborn daughter, who they named Rosalie Starbird Clark.

Who is Ashley Wagner?

Ashley Wagner, a former American figure skater, was born on May 16, 1991, in Heidelberg, Germany. She achieved significant success in her skating career, including winning the 2016 World silver medal, a 2014 Olympic bronze medal in the team event, and the 2012 Four Continents championship.

Ashley Wagner is a former American figure skater. 

Additionally, she is a three-time Grand Prix Final medalist and a three-time U.S. national champion. Wagner retired from competitive figure skating on August 1, 2019. Notably, she announced the birth of her first child with her fiancé Alex Clark in 2023.

Currently residing in the Boston area, Wagner is studying psychology to establish a therapy practice focused on trauma and related areas.

A Long-Awaited Dream Come True

Wagner and Clark first met in 2021, and they decided to cohabitate in 2020 after Wagner purchased a three-bedroom house in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. Wagner made the move from California to Massachusetts to pursue a master’s degree in sports psychology at Boston University, and she completed her studies in 2022.

In addition to her academic pursuits, she is also employed as a figure skating analyst for NBC Sports and is actively engaged as a motivational speaker.

A Supportive Partner & a Proud Dad

Alex Clark, a former University of Massachusetts Amherst hockey player who also competed in the minor leagues, has been a steadfast source of support for Wagner during her figure skating career and their fertility struggles. He frequently joined her at competitions, offering encouragement from the sidelines.

Additionally, he openly proved their IVF journey, sharing updates and images of their embryo transfers and pregnancy tests, effectively conveying the emotional highs and lows they experienced.

After retiring from competitive skating in 2019, Wagner expressed pride in the current phase of her life, following a decorated career that included a silver medal at the 2016 World Championships and a team event bronze medal at the 2014 Olympics.

Additionally, she bravely disclosed being sexually assaulted by fellow skater John Coughlin in 2008, when she was 17 years old. She detailed the assault in a first-person essay for USA Today in 2019, recounting that it occurred while she was asleep in bed after a party.

Tragically, Coughlin died by suicide in 2019 after facing allegations of sexual misconduct by multiple individuals.

Wagner has conveyed her desire to utilize her public profile to promote the causes of sexual assault survivors and to shed light on mental health issues in sports. She has also personally acknowledged the importance of her partner's support and love, referring to him fondly as her "rock" and "best friend."

Ashley Wagner & Alex Clark Welcomed Their Newly Born Baby

Wagner and Clark revealed their daughter newly born daughter named Rosalie Starbird Clark and they have posted some adorable pictures of their kid on their Instagram accounts and wrote

"Rosalie Starbird Clark. A woman who could not be rushed and did things her own way entering this world- fierce  You’ve already mastered serving face (you are your mother’s daughter) and have charmed us all. Welcome to the world Rosie girl, we love you so much"

They have also received many congratulations and well-wishes from their friends, family, and fans.

Wagner has said that she is excited to start a new chapter as a mother and to share her passion for skating with her son.
