According to the sources close to the late boxer, his health started deteriorating from 2010-2011, and as time passed on, his health became worse and worse. Infact his nephew and fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr talked about his bad health in an interview back in 2015.

"My uncle Roger Mayweather has lost a lot of memory from the sport of boxing. He's only in his 50s, but it seems like he's an old man in his 80s."

After Roger's passing on Tuesday, Floyd Mayweather Jr. who is named Fighter of the Decade for the 2010s released a statement which read:

"My uncle was one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring. Roger was a great champion and one of the best trainers in boxing. Unfortunately, his health was failing him for several years and now he can finally rest in peace."

In addition to that, in the report, the world-famous boxer also reiterated that his uncle meant the world for him, his father Floyd Mayweather Sr and uncle Jeff Mayweather. Additionally, he thanked all the people who sent the well-wishes in this challenging time.

Roger, following the footsteps of his elder brother Floyd Mayweather Sr., joined boxing and became a professional boxer in the early eighties. He played for nearly two decades and, in that period, won world titles such as a junior lightweight and junior welterweight. As a boxer, he used the title Black Mamba.

After retirement, Roger handled the training of his nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr. as his brother, and Floyd Mayweather's father was incarcerated. In his guidance, Mayweather Jr. won many titles and became the athlete he is known today. Also, he was part of many of Floyd's major fights, including the one with Yoel Judah in 2006 in Las Vegas. He trained Mayweather Jr. until his health allowed.

For Floyd, this week is turning out to be sad. This week he lost not only his family and mentor but his former girlfriend as well. On March 12, news broke that Floyd's ex-girlfriend Jossie Harris was found dead in a vehicle parked in a Southern California Suburb. The cause of death is yet not known and is deferred pending. Floyd and Harris share three children.

The funeral details of Roger Mayweather is not announced yet. The family is still on the grieving stage.
