Serena Williams Announces Her Retirement from Tennis

Serena Williams is ready to begin her next chapter beyond the court. The tennis champion announced she's evolving away from tennis in an essay she penned for Vogue.

The 40-year-old Serena Williams has announced her retirement from professional terms, hinting that she could move away after the coming US Open. In the column of Vogue, the greatest athlete said," Maybe the best word to describe what I'm up is evolution."

Further, the 23-time grand slam singles champion added," I'm here to tell you that I'm evolving away from the tennis, towards other things that are important to me." Her main reason for her retirement is to expand her family further.

Not to mention, Serena spent much of her recent years off the court since the moment she decided to step away by preparing to set up a venture capital company named Serena Ventures. After playing for more than 20 years, Serena is "evolving away from tennis."

Williams wrote," I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don't think its fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn't be writing this because I'd be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family."

Further, Serena has won an Opera record of twenty-three grand slam singles titles, earning total prize money of $94,588,910 in endorsements. Her historic career lasted nearly three decades since its start in the public courts of Compton, California.

The former tennis star turned professional in 1995 at age 14 and won her first grand slam title at the 1999 US Open at 17. The success of Serena wasn't limited to singles as together with her sister, the greatest ever duo partnership, with 14 grand slam women's doubles titles win.

The announcement comes following her first win of the season, a two-set victory at the National Bank Open. Serena is the part owner of a National Women's Soccer League Team and has her clothing line S by Serena.

To add up, Serena has won three Olympic gold in doubles and four Olympic gold medals. In her emotional essay in a recently-published article, she said she didn't want to choose between family and tennis and would have had to have she'd been a man.
