Heartbreaking Divorce With Her Boyfriend-turned Husband

Angela Rockwood has gained wide success in her professional life, but she has failed in her love life. Rockwood was formerly married to her boyfriend turned husband, Dustin Nguyen. Dustin is a American-Vietnamese actor well-known for his role in 21 Jump Street as Harry Truman. 

Rockwood met her former future husband, Dustin, in 1998. At that time, both of them were struggling in their careers. In an interview, Dustin said,

"Apart from her beauty, there was something about her soul. It felt like we’d always been together.”

V.I.P. cast and Nguyen were in a romantic relationship. They were often spotted hanging out together and further made public appearances in events and shows. After dating for around three years, the lovebirds eloped. 

Although they eloped, Rockwood still wanted to wed in a big ceremony so, the couple decided to get hitched in 2001. On their wedding planning weekend, the soon-to-be bride, Angela, went for a shopping with her bridesmaids.

It was Labor Day weekend. Along with her two friends, Rockwood went to San Francisco to buy bridesmaid dresses on September 3, 2001. While returning, they involved in a fatal car accident, and the model got paralyzed. 

Nevertheless, it did not become the barrier for Rockwood and her lover Nguyen in the relationship. Her then-fiancee took all the care of her. Dustin gave his full-time in Angela’s care, which involved activities like bathing her, feeding her, and tending to all her needs. 

Later, on Valentine's Day, 14th February 2002, Angela and her fiance Dustin walked down the aisle. Rockwood recalled the moment and said that her fiance woke up and asked her to get married. They wedded secretly even without knowing by their parents. Many of their fans followings congratulated them and further wished for a happy life ahead. 

However, their happiness could not last long. Unfortunately, the happily married couple ended their relationship with a divorce after nine years of their nuptials in 2011. 

Fatal Car Accident

At the age of 26, a turning point in Angela Rockwood's life came. She got involved in a deadly mishap while returning from San Francisco after buying a dress for her bridesmaids. 

Rockwood recalled the moment and said; 

“I sat in the backseat and that little voice in my head told me to wear my seatbelt.”

Suddenly, one of her friends who was driving the car, lost control of the car and crashed into the mountainside. Their car hit loose gravel and flipped over the bank. Remembering the incident, Rockwood said that her head hit the back of the seat and compressed her C4/C5 vertebrae. 

In the incident, Angela was thrown away from the side-rear triangular window before its final impact. Her neck was broken and further injured her spinal cord, which led her paralyzed below the shoulders.

The tragic incident took the life of one of her friends, actress Thuy Trang, Yellow Ranger in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Thuy suffered from several internal injuries. 

Push Girls actress was paralyzed, and the doctors gave only 3-5% chances to regain motor skills and feeling below her neck. However, she encouraged herself and began to motive herself as well as other fellow patients. 

Furthermore, after a regular physical therapy,  she was able to regain partial motion in her left index finger after two months of the crash. Her health went on improving, and three months after the accident, she was able to touch her head. 

Similarly, she underwent stem cell treatments in Portugal in 2003 that restored sensation on several body parts. Also, the model was able to use a manual wheelchair by herself. Moreover, one after another, she was able to carry out other activities like feeding herself, applying make-up, practicing upper body martial arts, and more.

She spent nine days in the hospital and around three months in a live-in rehab. After she was able to use the wheelchair herself, she gained around 40 lbs of weight.

Angela Rockwood seems to be single at the current moment. Since the divorce with her former hubby, Rockwood hasn't been spotted hanging out with any guys in public. Further, there are also no rumors of her affairs surfaced on the internet. 

Rockwood even shares photos with some guys on her social accounts, but she never admitted any of them as her boyfriend. As of now, she seems to be focusing more on her career rather than being involved in any relationships.

After the recovery, Angela Rockwood created a reality television series, Push Girls. It is the world's first reality TV show for women on wheels. She said it is like Sex and the City but on wheels. 

Rockwood added;

"In the three years that I was injured, I noticed that no matter what people were going through, whether they lost a breast to cancer or going through a divorce, that they would lose the light that was inside of them."

Moreover, she also said that she told her best friends that they need to create a team of woman warriors on wheels and to go back into the world and remind others that they can push through anything and live life to the fullest because life is short.

The first episode of the series was released on June 4, 2012. It broadcasted on Sundance TV. Moreover, the series also won a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Reality Series in 2013. The casts of the series are Angela Rockwood, Auti Angel, Mia Schaikewitz, Tiphany Adams, and Chelsie Hill. Whereas, Gay Rosenthal produced it.

Its first season has 14 episodes, and it ended on August 27, 2012. Similarly, the first episode of season two premiered on June 3, 2013. The season two has ten episodes, and it ended on July 22, 2013.

While Angela Rockwood was still on the path of her recovery, she used to motivate other patients in the hospital. Later, when she was able to operate the wheelchair by herself, she decided to motivate and inspire people using her survival story from the deadly crash. 

She advises people not to compare what they had. The actress tells them to focus on what they have at the current moment and life. She added people sweat so much energy on just the little things that they should be focusing on what's in front of them. 

According to her, she sweated so much before the accident so that now she lives a positive life because she can't waste any more time. 

Besides motivating personally, Rockwood also works in collaboration with disability organizations like Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and GlobalMobility. Further, she also conducts motivational programs.
