The reassuring reporter started her career from an early age. She first began her career in 1963 as a secretary at Newsweek. She was one of the first female reporters to earn an internship from the secretary pool and later became the White House correspondent for the Newsweek.
Eleanor started her broadcast career on “The Diane Rehm Show” on the WAMU-FM. She became popular among the listeners for her good-natured acceptance of ribbing from the panelists and callers to the program. Due to her fierce defense of Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton, she was referred to as Eleanor Rodham Clift at the Clinton Administration.

Tom died due to kidney cancer in 2005 and they were together till 2005.
