Early life and Education

Jennie McAlpine was born Jennie Elizabeth McAlpine on February 12 1984, in Bury, Greater Manchester. She is of mixed ethnicity of Scottish and Irish with grandparents from County Sligo and County Kerry and British by nationality. Before rising to fame, she used to perform on the shows on the patio for neighbours and do dance routines with local groups around the city.

Mcalpine was born to Garner Linda and Tom Mc Alpin, who sadly divorced when McAlpine was very young. After that, Mcalpine and her brother, Thomas McAlpine, started living with their father. 

Mcalpine’s father was always supportive towards her career in acting and drama. Her father sadly passed away in March 2017.

At 8, Jennie Mcalpine began amateur dramatics and played in different plays. She attended the Carol Godby Theatre Workshop and graduated from a local college named Holy Cross.

Career

Jennie McAlpine's unofficial career as a comedian started at thirteen. She also performed stand-up comedy at charity events, Pubs, and galas. She stood second at the Young Comedian of The Year in 1997.

Between 1999 and 2001, Jennie McAlpine starred as "Michelle Morley" in the British soap opera Emmerdale alongside Elsa Chappell, Alice Bates, Mandy Dingle and others.

Soon after, McAlpine portrayed the character of "Fiz Brown" in the 2001 British soap opera Coronation Street turned her career towards success. In Coronation Street, she worked with Molly McGlynn and Tina O'Brien. In 2008, she reprised her role as Fiz Brown in Coronation Street: Out of Africa, a spin-off of the British shop opera Coronation Street.

The same year, McAlpine appeared on the American television game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire and won £50,000 ($69035) for charity.

In 2010, McAlpine appeared as a contestant on the show The Door. She has also appeared as a guest panellist in the British panel show Loose Women on three episodes in 2010, 2015, and 2017 respectively.  

From 2011 to 2013, Jennie McAlpine made her appearances on several game shows, including The Chase, The Cube, Tipping Point: Lucky Stars, Pointless Celebrities, All-Star Family Fortunes, and All-Star Mr & Mrs.

In 2016, McAlpine was also featured in two game shows, Countdown and You're Back in the Room. The following year, she participated in the reality show I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, where she came as fourth.

Moreover, McAlpine has made television appearances on 8 out of 10 Cats, F***Off, I'm Ginger, Big Brother's Big Mouth, and The Xtra Factor.

Personal Life

Jennie McAlpine is a happily married woman; she tied the knot with Chriss Farr on January 3, 2017, at an intimate ceremony in the presence of her close friends and family. Chriss Farr has been working as a restaurant manager since 2005.

The couple has a son, Albert, who was born on November 29 2014, before their wedding. In May 2014, she announced her pregnancy news via Twitter. McAlpine took maternity leave from Coronation Street (1960) and returned to the show five months after her 'son's birth. She is so attached to her son that she refers to losing him as her only fear. 

She belongs to Scottish and Irish ancestry, and regarding her Scottish ancestry and famous red hair, she said in an interview:

I'm very proud of my Scottish roots and definitely love coming up to Scotland. When I'm in England I really stand out because of my red hair but when I come up to Scotland I feel normal because there are so many people with my coloring. I definitely feel different having red hair but in a good way. Even though I may sound it, I am no way English. My granddad Alan was Scottish and my grandmother was Irish. My other granddad was born in England but his parents were Scottish.

McAlpine is active in philanthropic work too. Since she was 17, she devoted her free time to help children in Egypt through the Thebes Project in Luxor. She also opened a restaurant, Annie's, along with her then-boyfriend, Chriss Farr, in Manchester in 2012.

The speciality of the restaurant is they serve modern British Cuisine. Once, the restaurant faced financial trouble, but the power couple didn't lose hope. Eventually, they succeeded in overcoming their circumstances and were able to make the best tearoom in Manchester city.
