Matt Dillon Biography

Early Life

Matt Dillon was born on February 18, 1964, in New Rochelle, New York in a Roman Catholic family. He is the son of Mary Ellen, a homemaker and Paul Dillon, a portrait painter and sales manager. He was raised along with his five siblings: one sister and four brothers.

He is American by nationality and belongs to the Irish descent with some Scottish and German ancestry. He attended Hommocks Middle School and during that time he luckily got a chance to work in the teenage movie Over the Edge in 1978. He dropped out of school for some time and later joined the Mamaroneck High School.

Career

Matt Dillon began his acting career as a child artist in Over the Edge. After making the successful debut he was offered with two movies; Little Darlings and My Bodyguard, both the movies did an excellent job at the box office.

In 1983, his Hollywood venture, The Outsiders and Rumble Fish succeeded to win the heart of audiences. He worked on many films such as; Tex (1982), Drugstore Cowboy (1989), 
To Die For (1995), Wild Things, There's Something About Mary (1998), The Art of the Steal (2013), Bad Country (2014) and much more.

In 2002, he enrolled himself in directing too with the movie, City of Ghosts where he acted and wrote the screenplay. In 2004, he was cast in the Academy Award-winning movie Crash of Paul Haggis. He also got his first nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

He even hosted the Saturday Night Live in March 2006. The same year, he appeared in the movie, You, Me and Dupree which received a critical acclamation. He also appeared in several TV series, including The Simpsons and Modern Family. Currently, he is busy with his
the upcoming film, The House That Jack Built.

Awards & Achievements

Matt Dillon received his first ever award in 1990 for his work on Drugstore Cowboy. In 1999, he won Teen Choice Award Funniest Scene for There's Something About Mary.

For portraying the character of Officer John Ryan in Crash, he was nominated for the Academy Award in 2005 for Best Supporting Actor and despite that, he won eight different awards for his role. In 2007, he received Cairo International Film Festival Special Award for his contribution to English film industry.

Matt Dillon is romantically involved with choreographer, Roberta Mastromichele since 2014. Previously he was in a relationship with actress, Cameron Diaz. The duo dated in 1995 and after three years of relationship, they split in 1998. 

His younger brother, Kevin Dillon is also a popular Hollywoods actor who is best known for his role in HBO comedy series, ‘Entourage’. Alex Raymond is the sister of his grandmother who is the famous cartoonist and the creator of the comic strip ‘Flash Gordon’, ‘Jungle Jim’ and ‘Rip Kirby’.
