Matt Stutzman is an American professional archer who holds the world record for the longest accurate shot in archery. He also participated in 2012 Paralympics, winning a silver medal and 2016 Paralympics. Most of the world’s perfect archers do have their magic hands, but Matt doesn’t. Though he is born with no hands, his hard work and dedication, has made him one of the best. Like his successful profession, he is also leading a happily married life with wife Amber Schaller and has three kids from the relationship.
Early Life
Matt Stutzman was born on 10th December 1982 to American parents in Kansas City, Kansas, U.S. He was born without arms and had a tough time during his childhood.
When he was just of 4 months, his own birth parents put him off for adoption. In 1983 late January Leon Stutzman adopted him when he was 13 months. His adopted father was the principal at a small Christian school on Kalona. When he was 18 months, he learned to walk and feed himself.
Being a disable, he learned how to do everything from driving a car to shooting a gun with his feet. Even as a little kid, he had a gift for focusing his attention on his task and figuring out his own way to get rid of any problems.
When he was 16, he learned how to shoot a gun and attended a hunters safety course. During the period, he developed an interest in archery so that he could go bow hunting with his father. His father even agreed to pay for half of the bow and rest he earned doing different odd jobs.
He also learned to play guitar from Tony Melendez who was also born without arms. Matt learned guitar quickly and soon was playing in some school competition for which he won many titles.
Career
Stutzman began his career in archery in 2010 and entered in a tournament with 550 non-disabled archers. His coach was MJ Rogers and worked together since the beginning of January. He was the only one who had picked up a bow sponsors. During the period, he used to train eight hours a day.
He made his International debut in the 2012 London Game where he got a spot on the U.S. Paralympic Archery Team. It was his hard work that he won a silver medal in the game and became one of the inspiration to the world. He also ranked in the 1st place in the best WA world ranking position.
His achievement earned him a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records hitting the target from 930 feet. He broke the previous record of 274 feet.
Personal Life
Stutzman married his wife, Amber Schaller, in the early 90’s. The couple is really helpful to each other and supports each other in every step of their life.
The husband and wife are blessed with three sons: Carter, Cameron, and Alex. Besides being a successful archer, he is a loving husband and dad. He does every task such as change baby diapers, cook food, fixes cars and does yard works.
Furthermore, he spent quality time with his family participating in activities like hunting, fishing, camping, and boating.
