Michael Steele Biography

Early Life

Michael Stephen Steele, known as Michael Steele, an American politician, born on October 19, 1958, at Andrews Air Force Base in Prince George’s Country, Maryland. He holds American nationality and belongs to African-American ethnicity.

He was adopted newborn by William and Maebell Steele. William passed away, and Maebell started to work as a laundress to raise her children. She later married John Turner, who was a truck driver. 

Michael was raised in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington, D.C, along with his sister, Monica Turner.

Early Education and Career

Steele was a student at Archbishop Carroll Roman Catholic High School in Washington, D.C. During his senior year, he was elected student council president. In 1977, Steele enrolled at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he got a bachelor’s degree in international studies.

For three years Steele prepared for the Catholic priesthood at the Augustinian Friars Seminary at Villanova University and taught high school students, world history, and economics for one year at Malvern Preparatory School in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

Then he enrolled at the Georgetown University Law Center and attended night classes and received his Juris Doctor in 1991 at his second attempt.

Later Steele was employed as a corporate securities associate at the Washington, D.C. office of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen, and Hamilton. He functioned In financial investment for Wall Street underwriters, working at Cleary’sTokyo, Japan, office on major product liability and its London office on corporate matters from 1991 to 1997.

Career

Steele joined the Republican Party and became chairman of the Prince George’s County Republican Central Committee. He was founding member of the centrist and socially inclusive Republican Leadership Council in 1993. In 2008, he left citing disagreements with the endorsing candidates.

In 1995 Maryland Republican Party elected Steele as the Republican Man of the Year. In December  2000, he was elected chairman of the Maryland Republican Party which made him the first African American elected chairman of any state Republican party. 

Michael is the president and CEO of The Steele Group. He started the company in 1999. It works with Institutional and individual clients to design overall business development, investor, networking and communications strategies.

Steele was also a chairman of the Republican National Committee. His achieved success when he made a commitment to motivating the Americans to engage in their local societies and empowering state and local Republican organizations to do the same. Steele is Political Analyst for MSNBC. Steele has also entertained guest on cable political talk shows such as Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report and HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher.

He has also won several awards like the Maryland State Republican Man of the Year in 1995, Black America’s Political Action Committee in 2002, Vikki Buckley Political Leadership Award.

Personal Life

Michael Steele is a married man. He married his beautiful wife Andrea Derritt in 1985. Michael Steele has two sons with Andrea named Michael II Steele and Drew Steele.

It has been 32 years of  Michael and Andrea's marriage, and the pair is still together. There is no rumor of his extramarital affairs. It seems like they are living a happy life together.
