Stefán Karl Stefánsson is an Icelandic actor best known by his character name, Robbie Rotten from one of the TV series named, Lazy Town from which he rose to fame. He debuted his acting from the movie named, Aramotaskaup. Apart from the professional life, he is currently married and has three daughters and a son with his wife.
Early life and Education
Born as Stefán Karl Stefánsson on 10th July 1975 in Hafnarfjorour, Iceland, he grew up in a working-class family in a village. He holds two citizenships of Iceland and America.
He graduated from a drama school from The Icelandic Academy of Arts in Reykjavik. After that, he attended the National Theater of Iceland to improve his acting. Apart from that, he took various training related to stand-up comedy, modern dancing, baritone voice, and other.
Career
Stefánsson began his career in 1994 after appearing in the movie, Aramotaskaup by Oskar Jonasson. After that, he got opportunities to appear in a number of the movies like Privacy, Regina, Stella For Office and so on.
He then started working in TV as well. In 1998, he made TV debut from the series Baking Trouble after which he also appeared in many other series like, Cas Can Fly, Angel No. 5503288, God Exists… And Love and much more.
Among all his TV works he was famous for the British-Icelandic TV show called, Lazy Town from which he gained much of and till today he is known by the name of his character rather than his real name. He worked in the series from 2004-2007 and 2013-2014 along with the casts Julianna Rose Mauriello, Magnus Scheving, Julie Westwood, Jodi Eichelberger, David Matthew Feldman, Chloe Lang and others.
Besides TV and movies, he also worked in numbers of theater plays including Life x3 by Yasmine Reza, Noises Off by Michael Frayn, Stones in His Pocket by Marie Jones, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical and much more.
Personal Life
On 29th December 2002, Stefán Karl Stefánsson marred Steinmann Olina Porsteinsdottir. The couple met for the first time in the late 1990s and began to date afterward and the rest we all know. His wife, Porsteinsdottir also belongs to the film industry and is also an Icelandic actress and a host.
Some years after marriage, they moved to Los Angeles and settled there. The couple is parents of four children, three daughters, and a son.
In September 2016, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After that, he joined GoFundMe from which he raised fund for his surgery.
Moreover, in 2017 it was announced that he was in the last stage of cancer but later on, was cured and as of now he is doing well but is not free from cancer yet. His wife even stated,
‘’ On June 7, three liver tumours were removed. "After the operation Stefan suffered an infection which lasted a week and afterwards, he received an infection that lasted for a week in hospital. Stephen has bile-duct cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma), a rare and little-researched disease. The disease is now advanced to stage four, and therefore, his life expectancy is unfortunately significantly reduced."
