Early Life And Education Of Sharon Tay

Sharon Tay was born on October 15, 1966, in Singapore to Chinese parents. Her family moved to the U.S when she was seven. She was raised in Connecticut until her family relocated to the Philippines.

She attended International School for her sophomore years and completed high school in the States from a boarding school in Massachusetts. She is a graduate of Boston University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism with International Relations as a minor.

Tay, 52, started her career in the field of journalism in 1986 working at BNN, a local cable station. She served as a weekend news anchor, producer, and writer.

After gaining more than six years of experience working for the station, she moved to KCCN-TV, currently known as KION as a general assignment reporter/consumer investigative reporter.

At the age of 27, she moved to Los Angeles after KTLA-5 hired her as a general assignment reporter. Eventually, she was promoted to weekend anchor and later anchored the early morning news.

In December 2004, Tay quit exploring opportunities at MSNBC. There she hosted MSNBC at the Movies and MSNBC Entertainment Hot List. As of 2018, she is employed by CBS 2 and KCAL 9. At KCAL 9 she anchors KCAL 9 weeknights at 8 pm and KCAL 9 News at 10 pm. It is the #1 newscast in Los Angeles. She also presents the KCBS-TV's news at 4.30 and midday newscast at 11.00.

She was also the host of Making It: Minority Success Stories and co-host of The Human Edge on National Geographic Channel.

She is a five-time Emmy and three-time Associated Press award, winner. She won her first Emmy for covering the Malibu fire and the other for her coverage of Northridge earthquake.

She received Emmy for hosting business affairs show while working for KTLA. The additional two Emmy and Associated Press awards were given to the whole team of KTLA for best newscast in a 30-minute format.
