German actor, Thomas is noted for his role of Hauptmann Wilm Hosenfeld in The Pianist, Captain Engelhorn in the 2005 remake of King Kong and Major Otto Remer in Valkyrie. He came to prominence after playing Baron Strucker in Marvel Studios' Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron. He was trained to be an Olympic swimmer before becoming an actor. In 1991, he received the Max Ophüls Prize for best young actor.
